It's not likely to drop soon. There will of course be places cheaper than others, but over here in England, the company I work for only just dropped the price of Prophecies to £19.99... that is a LONG time for a pc game to hold its full price. Usually within the first month or two pc games drop by half their value.
BTW its nothing like sims expansions; you HAVE to have original sims to play the expansions, you don't have to have prophecies to play factions Hence its a standalone.

If they need to charge $50 for a game, then do it, but at least make sure what you are coming out with is worthy of that title. If you cant make something that should be sold for $50, then DONT.

No way, the voice-acting in Prophecies was awful!! Maybe I've been spoiled by games with excellent voice-acting, like KOTOR, but GW was really bad!
Overall, I thought the acting was better in Factions (though I guess there was significantly less of it, wasn't there?). As I remember, the only voice that made me groan like I did through the first one was Shiro's.

Hey, I'm not trying to restrict any opinions. All I said was that if it doesn't look like it's worth it, you're free to skip it. Regretting it afterwards is kind of different.

Guild Wars is really the first "CORPG" game, so I lumped them together with MMORPG games since they're so similar. Both are played online only, and have to deal with those aforementioned costs, and that's all I was getting at. The only distinguishing aspect is instances, not server-related bills.

When do you think the price will drop to say $39 or $29?
How long should I wait?

In Canada Factions sells for $59.99 CAD plus tax. That's 10 dollars more than Chapter 1 cost at the time of original release, even though Factions has way less content and a ton of copy & pasted content from Chapter 1.
I don't see that price lasting too long.
I predict that in Canada Factions will be $39.99 in 3 or 4 months.

Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy voice acting much better in Prophecies. Togo and Shiro were both annoyingly voiced. Togo should of been done by David Caradene. Like Anet could afford him though.

Haha, that would be great. I think I was half-expecting his voice a few times.

I'm starting to have my doubts on getting Factions for my b-day. Then again I can't think of any other new games that have come out that are really great.
*shrugs*Hearing all of this bad crud about Factions really brings doubt to a person..

Try www.pricegrabber.com to find cheap prices. I also routinely check www.techbargains.com for interesting deals on stuff. Ebay is a valid place to shop. Sometimes you can find unopened copies there. I wouldn't buy a used copy, but there's nothing wrong with an unopened one is there? I found a steal on two of the Sims expansions. I'm looking forward to new ways to torture my sims. *muhahahaha*

Man I have to say that game was pretty fun. I definitely put more time into that game than Factions. The quests in that game sure aren't the boring delivery boy missions you can find in Factions. Plus, they have mods out there can definitely extend the gameplay. It's a different type of game, but boy, it is sure something else.

All those whining about the price of Factions need to take a step back and think for one second.
If like me you've been playing since April 28 2005, when GW came out, then this applies to you too.
Let's compare this to World of Warcraft, since these 2 games are similar in some ways.
So you buy WoW.. 50$. You got the game, great. Now if you're lucky you got a 30 day free play that came with it. Cool
You buy GW. You can play for as much as you like, WITHOUT paying anything else, ever.
If you want to play WoW for a full year, it costs you 180$ (and I took a smaller monthly fee, it costs actually more than that.)
Then an expansion comes out for both games.. WoW is 35-40$, Factions is 50$. WOW is cheaper, but you still need to pay 15-20$/month to play it.
Lets make a small addition:
GW+Factions for 18 months (until next expansion) = 100-110$ (50+50+taxes..lol)
WOW+Expansion for 18 months = 355$ (50+35+15/month)
Now where is the problem, you tell me.

i enjoy factions and $50 is not that much for a game that has no fees for online gaming. Do to this we are saving money when you stop to think about it. Anyone played runescape that stinks and cost $60 for a year. I dont know about the rest of you but i would rather spend the money on factions.

I expect the price to drop a LOT sooner than most here give credit for. Sales have already dropped heavily , and once word get's out how "average" it is you can expect.......
Bargain Bin for £9.99 in 3 months time , mark my words.

GARBAGE
according to the game sales trackers Factions is at the top of their charts.
as for bargain bin that wont happen for the simple fact that every account will have a base yearly COST to Anet/NCSoft .
to give you a road map there is a price point at which a sale will COST them money instead of making them money.
as i said earlier they will sell at a price that allows a profit on each game/chapter or they simply wont sell it.

Yup, as Loviatar says, currently Factions is the top-selling pc game (though with GRAW now out I think that will take over). I'll have a look tomorrow when our retail magazine comes in and let you all know what the UK figures and sales ratings for pc games were this last week
